About this property

The Marlin House is a prime example of Queen Anne Victorian architecture. The home was originally constructed in 1890 in the town of Marlin, Texas. Marlin was once a prosperous resort town that drew tourists for its natural hot springs and was host to the 8th hotel built by Conrad Hilton of Hilton Hotels. The restoration and subsequent remodels completed in 2009 and 2011, respectively, came to rest in its current location on Mary Street in the heart of South Austin. The extensive renovation resurrected the home s grandeur and showcases details such as ornate hand-carved trim, solid wood banisters with artichoke finials, an original antique doorbell, elaborate door casings and millwork and original heart longleaf pine flooring. The first floor is comprised of two sitting rooms, formal dining room, powder bath and a gourmet kitchen with Carrara marble countertops, professional Viking range, Bosch dishwasher, wine fridge and wet bar with built-in cabinet storage. Particular care has been placed in selecting hardware, fixture and light switch details that mimic the time period of the home. The second floor is comprised of three bedrooms, each with their own en-suite bath. The master suite features Carrara marble tile, a frameless glass shower and freestanding clawfoot tub. The top floor is comprised of a fourth bedroom or flex living space with full bathroom and custom steel windows overlooking the downtown skyline. Behind the walls, the home was fully restored in 2009 and reframed the structure to add the third floor living space. In 2009, a new pier and beam foundation was added when it was relocated to the site, new electrical wiring and electrical panel installed, new plumbing throughout, and modern conveniences such as a full central HVAC system and tankless hot water were added. Outside, classic wraparound porches provide generous space to lounge and entertain guests, while a level grassy lawn allows space to roam. There are 2, possibly 3 extra parking spaces.
